One thing that makes our art so uplifting we have been told is a vessel with is sails to the wind, and on Achill Island, Co. Mayo there can be found a very unique sailing boat by the name of ‘the Achill Yawl’ .  A sturdy vessel capable of navigating choppy waters, it is ideal to navigate the westerly winds off the coast of Ireland.  Keem Bay on the westerly part of Achill is located past Dooagh village.

We have all heard of sand dunes moving; however, in an interesting tale of moving sands; between May 2017 and January 2019, Dooagh Beach had 300 metres of golden sand.  Previously, the sand was completely washed away in a storm in 1984, leaving a rocky foreshore that remained until the sand was restored by an unusually high tide in April 2017.  As a result there was an increase in tourism to the village.  Sadly, Dooagh beach washed away again in early 2019.
