'An Fharraige Codlata' The Sleeping Sea - Part I
On a map, the coastline or shore is absolute, a definite line separating dry land from ocean depths. As you make your way along the Wild Atlantic Way you see how much more varied and interesting the relationship between island and ocean really is.
Glass is the perfect medium to capture the many grades and shades of blue the Atlantic presents, as it approaches the beachy shallows of the shore. From deep, dark, almost black depths, to azure blue and aquamarine.
Sensing a moonlit night. This abstract piece, 'An Fharraige Codlata', Gaelic for 'The Sleeping Sea' explores the colours and moods of the Atlantic as seen here on the incomparable west of Ireland coast. We are reminded of covert expeditions of historical figure, Grace O'Malley, Pirate Queen of the west; skilfully navigating along the coast, her way often lit by the moon.
