This banner of war displays deeply cut, flying tendrils revealing a long, drawn out siege. Within the composition we see deep colour, symbolizing darkened blood long since shed. This is the monarch's ensign which within its origins is attached by a staff. The siege of Candia 1648—1669 CE has been the second longest recorded siege to date and this famed siege inspires this piece.
