Chromagon Collection 'Bow Wave'
The section in the middle is the prow of a boat breaking through the water. In keeping with the Chromagon concept, Bow Wave is made up of two fields - a tight, even and repetitive pattern which is being divided by a spearhead - or boat’s prow - of looser shapes. The patterns contrast but the colours interplay with one another.
The Chromagon series is based around the conflict between different geometric patterns. In each piece two different fields meet along a contrasting meridian, where a rigid pattern is shown alongside a freer one: in one example, a regimented tile pattern might meet a loose arrangement of triangles; in another, an arrow of diamonds could plunge through a brickwork pattern. In each iteration of the Chromagon series, the eye is immediately drawn to the contrasting patterns on the one hand, and the shared colours on the other. Out of these powerful contrasts of shape, colour and light, there’s an uplifting sense of positivity and joy.
